How to make Skyrim Sweet Roll
Table of Contents
Although these are part of a fictional universe, they were based on real recipes that are absolutely delicious.
And the nice thing about the Sweet Roll is that it’s one of the easiest recipes you can make in the Skyrim recipe book!
Ingredients:
(4 servings)
For the roll:
- 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter (melted)
- 1 cup of warm, whole milk
- 2 tablespoons of honey
- Salt
- 1 egg
- 2 teaspoons of active dry yeast
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
For the frosting:
- 2 tablespoons of cream cheese (softened)
- 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter (softened)
- 1/2 powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons of heavy cream
Instructions:
Similar to how you would make a cinnamon roll, we’ll be cooking them in two stages.
We’ll start by preparing the rolls that need to rise for 30 minutes, during which we will prepare the frosting.
One thing that will make the dish look more authentic is to bake the rolls in ‘mini bundt pans’.
It will give them that signature doughnut shape, similar to how they look in the game. The best ones to get are 5’’ in size.
Step 1:
Starting with the rolls, preheat the oven to 350°F.
Step 2:
We first need to mix the batter.
Using a large bowl combine the butter, milk, and honey together and stir thoroughly. The honey should be completely dissolved.
Step 3:
Add the salt and yeast to the mixture first.
Follow that up by adding the egg and flour, then mix everything until all the ingredients are combined. It should be a smooth batter with no noticeable graininess to it.
Step 4:
Spoon the mixture into the bundt pans.
If you don’t have bundt pans you can use any small cake, bread, or pie trays you might have around as an alternative.
Step 5:
Cover the tins to stop them from drying out, and also protect them from dust.
A simple kitchen towel works well for this or plastic wrap is also a good alternative.
Allow them to rise for 30 minutes.
Step 6:
Once ready, place all the pans in the oven and allow to cook for 15 minutes.
A good way to check they are done is to insert a toothpick into the roll, if it comes out clean then it means the mixture has been cooked all the way through and they are ready.
Step 7:
While the rolls are rising/cooking, we can prepare the frosting.
Start by combining the cream cheese, butter, and powdered sugar into a small bowl and start mixing everything together.
Step 8:
Once the rolls have finished baking, leave them to cool for a bit.
Otherwise, the heat will warm the icing up and make it drip off the edges.
Step 9:
Spoon the frosting over the top and let it run down the sides a little to give it that delicious, dessert look and style.
Pro tip: sometimes, after the mixture has risen the top of the pan (which becomes the bottom of the roll once flipped) it won’t be completely even, making them not sit flat on your plate.
So, after they have cooked, and before spooning the frosting on, you can cut a thin layer off the bottom of the roll to allow it to sit flat.
Ingredient substitutions
Whether for dietary reasons, wanting a different kind of flavor, or perhaps you’re just missing that one ingredient in your pantry, here are some great suggestions for alternate ingredients you can use in your Sweet Roll recipe.
1. Whipped cream
Creating the frosting can be a lot of work, it needs multiple ingredients and it can be tough to get the right consistency.
Whipped cream can be a great alternative as not only does it look similar to the frosting, it tastes just as sweet, and is considerably easier to prepare.
2. Chickpea Flour
A fantastic gluten-free substitute you can use in place of the flour is chickpea flour.
It retains all of the binding power that all-purpose flour has while being much healthier due to its lower amount of simple carbohydrates.
While not as common in American convenience stores, it’s something that’s gaining popularity fast and is well worth stocking up on.
3. Mashed Banana
If you’re looking to substitute the eggs with a dairy-free alternative, a mashed banana works great and will yield the same kind of mixture consistency while offering that small hint of banana flavor.
But don’t worry, it won’t overpower the flavor of the rolls.
If possible, use a banana that is a little bit ‘over ripe’ so it will blend smoothly into the mixture.
What to serve with Skyrim Sweet Rolls
Sweet rolls make a delicious treat no matter what time of the day you eat them.
They work as breakfast, lunch, or dinner. And depending on when you eat them, there are a ton of great pairing options to enhance your dining experience.
Coffee
There is a reason why coffee and pastry/cakes are such a common pairing, they have contrasting flavors with the slight bitterness of the coffee complementing the sweetness of the roll.
You might enjoy a lot of sugar, milk, or cream in your coffee, but we encourage you to lower their amounts (or outright remove them) to get those contrasting flavors as strong as possible.
Fresh fruit
Another good breakfast option, not only filling you up with energy for the day ahead but the tartness of a bowl of mixed fruit can balance out the sweetness of the roll.
Try to include less sour things such as lemon and focus on more tame flavors such as apple.
How to reheat Skyrim Sweet Rolls
Sweet rolls taste delicious when warm, they get this satisfying and filling quality to them that makes them a joy to eat hot when it’s a cold day.
Although it’s perfectly fine to eat them straight from the fridge should you prefer.
However, if you do want them warmed up, here’s how to do it.
How to reheat Skyrim Sweet Rolls in a pot
You might not believe it, but pan heating is actually a really nice way to warm up sweet rolls as it won’t overheat the frosting and will toast the bottom just a little.
Put your pot or pan on the stovetop and heat it on medium to low.
Place your roll(s) in the pan and cover with a lid. Give them 10 minutes to sit in the hot air and they should be nice and warm, no oil required!
How to reheat Skyrim Sweet Rolls in a microwave
This will soften up the frosting a lot, so place in a microwave-safe dish beforehand.
This way, nothing runs down the sides and makes a mess in your microwave.
Heat for 30 seconds and check whether you are happy with the temperature, if it’s not quite there yet heat it for 30 more seconds and it should be good!
How to reheat Skyrim Sweet Rolls in the oven
Preheat the oven to 350°F.
Place the Sweet Rolls on a baking dish/tray and cover with foil to ensure they don’t dry out too much.
Cook for 10 minutes and they should be nice and warm.
How to reheat Skyrim Sweet Rolls in an air fryer
Preheat the air fryer to 320°F.
Place the rolls in the air fryer basket – depending on how many rolls you have you might need to do this in a few batches. Fry for about 3 minutes.
How to store Skyrim Sweet Rolls
Sweet rolls can be refrigerated, frozen, or stored at room temperature.
The most important thing is that we eliminate as much air exposure as possible.
This can be done by wrapping them in plastic wrap or storing them in an airtight container.
Store in the fridge
If you want to store your rolls in the fridge it’s a good idea to hold back on the frosting and keep that separate so you can wrap them without making a mess.
Once refrigerated they will store for 4-5 days.
Store in the freezer
Place the cooled-down rolls in an airtight container and freeze them.
Before you warm them up, the rolls should usually be defrosted, but if you’re in a rush you can just bake them straight from frozen again in the oven.
They will last for about 2 months in the freezer.
