Founder, Culinary Expert & Cooking Mentor

Michael’s love for cooking didn’t start in a culinary school or a professional kitchen. It started at his grandmother’s side, learning the kind of recipes and techniques that never make it into cookbooks but somehow make everything taste better.

From an early age he understood that a great meal is about more than just food. It’s about connection, comfort, and bringing people together around a table.

Those early lessons weren’t about following recipes to the letter. They were about understanding flavor, trusting your instincts, and knowing when to improvise.

His grandmother taught him that cooking is a living thing, and that the best dishes come from paying attention, not just measuring. It’s a philosophy that has stayed with him through every cooking class, every late night in the kitchen, and every piece of content he has built ConsciousEating around.

As he grew up, life pulled Michael in other creative directions for a while, but cooking never let him go. While most people were winding down after work, Michael was heading to evening cooking classes and shadowing chefs at some of his favorite restaurants. This allowed him to sharpen his technical skills and deepen his understanding of what it really means to cook with intention. It was in one of those classes that something clicked.

As Michael says, “I didn’t just want to cook. I wanted to help other people fall in love with it too.”

That realization is what led to ConsciousEating, and it’s what drives everything he publishes for you on this site. Michael brings a rare combination of lifelong passion, self-taught grit, and genuine curiosity to every recipe and piece of cooking advice.

And his desire to teach is at the heart of everything ConsciousEating publishes. Michael has always believed that great cooking knowledge shouldn’t stay locked in professional kitchens or expensive culinary programs.

He’s not here to impress you with complicated techniques. He’s here to make you feel confident and excited every time you step into your kitchen.

In Michael’s words, “Let’s cook. Let’s eat. And have fun doing both!”
