Wash the potatoes thoroughly over the kitchen sink to prepare them for peeling.
Peel the potatoes entirely with a peeler leaving no skin on them.
Place the potatoes on a cutting board and cut them up. Ideally, they should be diced for consistency while cooking.
Place the diced potatoes in a large pot and pour enough water to cover them.
Cook on high heat until the water is boiling, then turn the heat to medium.
Keep cooking the potatoes on medium heat until it is fork-tender.
Drain the water in the pot by dumping the contents in a strainer, and then return the potatoes to the container.
Add the milk to the potatoes with ¼ cup of butter and mix them well with a whisk until you reach the desired consistency.
Add salt and pepper to the mixture to your taste. Ideally, this should be ½ tsp of salt and ⅓ tsp of pepper.
Mix the mixture well with a spatula, and voilà, your mashed potatoes are ready!
