Equipment
  • 1 Large skillet
  • 1 bowl
Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound Ground beef
  • 1-2 Fresh onions chopped
  • 1-2 tablespoons Butter
  • 1/2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1-2 tablespoons Chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon Dry mustard or yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Red pepper flakes optional for extra heat
  • 1-2 teaspoons Salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1/4 cup Tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup White vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Liquid smoke optional for added smokiness
  • 2 cups Water
Instructions

  • Begin by preparing your ingredients for the sauce.
Chop the onions and measure out the remaining ingredients.
In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
  • Add chopped onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they become translucent and softened.
Once the onions are cooked, add ground beef and break it apart with a spatula.
Cook until it browns, then drain any excess fat if necessary.
  • Combine spices and liquids in a bowl.
Mix Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, dry mustard, paprika, black pepper, cayenne pepper, pepper flakes (optional), salt, sugar, tomato paste, white vinegar, liquid smoke (optional), and water.
  • Pour the spice and liquid mixture into the skillet with the cooked ground beef and onions.
Cook the sauce over medium heat for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
This allows the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken.
  • Taste the Texas Hot Dog Sauce and adjust the seasoning as desired.
If you prefer a spicier sauce, feel free to add more pepper flakes, cayenne pepper, or hot sauce to taste.
If the sauce is too thick, you can add a little more water to achieve your desired consistency.
Serve the sauce over hot dogs, bratwurst, or your favorite grilled meats.
Enjoy your delicious, homemade Texas Hot Dog Sauce!
