- Place the chopped bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat. 
- Cook until the bacon is crispy. 
- Remove the bacon from the skillet and drain it on paper towels. 
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the bacon grease in the skillet. 
- Sauté until the onions are translucent. 
- Add the trimmed green beans to the skillet. 
- Pour in the chicken broth and add the butter. 
- Season with sugar, salt, and black pepper. 
- Stir well to combine all the ingredients. 
- Bring the mixture to a simmer. 
- Then lower the heat to medium-low. 
- Cover the skillet and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, until the green beans are tender. 
- Uncover the skillet, stir in the cooked bacon, and let it heat through. 
- Serve the green beans warm.
