Ingredients
  
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 1/2 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 arbol peppers trimmed into 1-inch pieces
Instructions
 
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F.
    Arrange the arbol peppers on a baking sheet and roast for 15 minutes until the peppers are lightly charred.
    Remove from heat and let cool before handling.
  • Add the roasted arbol peppers and ½ cup of water in a food processor or blender.
    Blend until a paste-like consistency is achieved.
  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the pepper paste, tomato sauce, white vinegar, onion powder, cumin, chili powder, cayenne pepper, salt and black pepper.
    Stir well to incorporate all of the ingredients.
  • Turn the heat to low and let the sauce mixture simmer for about 15-20 minutes until it reaches your desired thickness.
    Ensure to stir the sauce occasionally to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the saucepan.
