Equipment
  • bowl
  • Skillet
  • Cast iron pan
Ingredients

For the pasta
  • ½ lb linguine
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • cup white wine
  • ½ lb jumbo shrimp
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • ¼ tsp red pepper flakes
  • tsp salt
  • tsp pepper
  • 3 tbsp lemon juice
  • 3 tbsp finely chopped parsley
For the garlic butter steak
  • ½ lb NY strip steak
  • ½ tsp coarse salt
  • ½ tbsp avocado oil
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp minced garlic
Instructions

  • Cook the “backbone” of your Steak and Shrimp dish—the pasta. Boil some water in a large pot, add some salt, and then your linguine. Cook for about 7 minutes for al dente pasta and drain it well.
  • While the pasta is cooking you can prepare the shrimp. Add butter and olive oil to a large skillet over medium heat and add garlic and red pepper flakes. Cook for one minute.
  • Add the peeled and deveined shrimp to the skillet and sprinkle some salt and pepper. Cook for about 5 minutes stirring frequently until the shrimp are cooked through and pink. Once cooked, remove them to a plate and set aside.
  • Stir in some white wine and lemon juice. Cook for 1 minute and then remove the skillet from the heat and add finely chopped parsley.
Then, add your linguine and shrimp back to the skillet and toss, so the pasta is nicely coated in the sauce.
  • Cook your steak. Sprinkle your steak with salt and pepper. Then heat a large cast iron pan over high heat, lightly brush the steak with oil, and place in a skillet when it is heated properly.
Note: it’s even better if you season your steak beforehand, even before cooking the pasta. Cook your steak for about 3-4 minutes on each side. If you have a meat thermometer it should be around 135 degrees for medium rare and 140 for medium.
  • While the steak is cooking, mix the butter and garlic in a small bowl and use it to top your steak once it is done. Let it rest for about 5 minutes before slicing, always against the grain.
  • Split your linguine and shrimp between two bowls and top with the sliced steak. Sprinkle with some additionally chopped parsley and enjoy. Your chef-like pasta is ready.
