Ingredients
  
  • 1 8- ounce loaf of French bread cut into 1/2-inch cubes
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon bourbon
  • 6 eggs beaten
  • 1/2 quart milk
  • 1/2 quart half & half
  • 1 stick of sweet butter
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1 small apple peeled, cored, and cut into 1/2-inch dice
  • A pinch of nutmeg
  • A pinch of salt
Instructions
 
  • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
    Mix the sugar light brown sugar, and divide the mixture equally in half.
    Add the cinnamon, beaten eggs, vanilla extract, bourbon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt to one-half of the sugar mixture.
    Mix well.
  • Mix milk, half & half, sweet butter, and the remaining half of the sugar mixture in a medium saucepan.
    Bring this to a boil, stirring constantly to avoid scorching.
    Mix the hot milk mixture into the egg and sugar mixture, making sure to combine evenly.
    Fold in the raisins and the diced apple.
  • Arrange the bread cubes in a single layer in a greased 1 1/2-inch baking dish.
    Pour the egg and milk mixture evenly over the bread cubes, making sure they are completely soaked.
  • Let the bread absorb the liquid for a few minutes.
    Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 45 to 55 minutes, until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Remove the pudding from the oven and allow it to cool slightly before serving.
