Equipment
  • 1 large mixing bowl
  • 1 dough hook attachment
  • 1 plastic wrap
  • 1 baking sheet
Ingredients

  • 1 package 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour you can also use bread flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil more for the bowl
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/2 cup melted butter or olive oil
  • Garlic salt or a combination of garlic powder and salt
  • Grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the yeast with warm water and let it stand for about 5 minutes until the yeast becomes frothy.
Add the flour, salt, and olive oil.
Mix with a dough hook attachment or by hand until the dough forms a ball.
If the dough is sticky, add more flour as needed.
  • Knead the dough either with the dough hook attachment or by hand on a lightly floured surface for about 6-8 minutes until it's smooth and elastic.
  • Lightly coat a large bowl with oil and place the dough ball in it, turning to coat the dough with oil.
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a damp towel and set it in a warm place to rise for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface.
Divide the dough into 12-15 even pieces.
Shape each dough piece into rounds like dinner rolls, then roll and stretch them along the work surface into breadsticks, about 6 to 8 inches in length.
  • Place the breadsticks on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each one to allow for expansion.
  • Let the breadsticks rise for 15-20 minutes while preparing the garlic butter mixture.
  • Prepare the garlic butter by combining melted butter or olive oil with garlic salt (or a mixture of garlic powder and salt) to taste.
  • Once the breadsticks have risen, brush them with the garlic butter mixture and then bake for approximately 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Remove the breadsticks from the oven and immediately sprinkle them with grated Parmesan cheese.
  • Serve warm and enjoy your delicious homemade Crazy Bread!
